My Boyfriend Didn’t Believe I Had an STI

“What about your first boyfriend?”

My first boyfriend was someone I dated for literally a week, also when I was 18. We didn’t have sex. I wanted him to go down on me once, but he was also very young and wasn’t comfortable with doing that yet. I ended up scaring him off before anything could happen. Definitely wasn’t him either.

“Well there’s no way you could’ve got it from me.”

I implored him to look at the statistics. My ex was a borderline nymphomaniac. He was extremely sexually active, having had sex with almost thirty people before he dated me. He would have unprotected sex with both men and women, and even persuaded me into letting him not wear a condom. He persuaded me into a lot of things, actually.

Dejected, my ex angrily hung up the phone. I got back in the car and told my friends what happened. “I never liked him anyway,” said one of them.

There was no way it couldn’t have been him. A few months after we started dating he cheated on me.

Finally, he decided to get tested. I knew and he knew that there is no HPV test for men, but he insisted anyway. No surprise, the next day he told me he was clean. He insisted that his doctor said he didn’t have it, and continued to gaslight me.

It took me a long time to stop talking to him. Still vulnerable, when I came back to the state he lived in, we immediately had sex. I insisted on him wearing a condom if he “didn’t have” HPV, but he still didn’t. This time he gave me bedbugs. At this point I decided it was time to cut him off.

After a year the HPV cleared up. I went to a new gyno and they called me a few days after my appointment, telling me the news. I was so relieved. I was excited at the prospect of being able to have sex without prefacing every act with “I have HPV”. As common as it was, it was annoying and difficult to live with, and being constantly invalidated by the guy who gave it to me just added to my fear. Gaslighting in sexual situations is a very real thing.

Before having sex with a partner, be sure to get tested immediately. And if they cheat on you, get tested again. A partner in denial is them refusing to admit their own mistakes, and it can make it seem like you are at fault for your misfortune. Stay safe. And, perhaps more importantly, stay strong.

Maternal Mortality, Still an Issue…Especially in this State!

You wouldn’t necessarily guess that *any* state in the U.S. has a high maternal mortality rate (i.e. mothers who die due to pregnancy- and birth-related complications), but one has that dubious honor. And that is the great state of Texas.

In the September issue of medical journal Obstetrics and Gynecology, a report found the following:

The maternal mortality rate in the United States increased between 2000 and 2014, even while the rest of the world succeeded in reducing its rate. Excluding California, where maternal mortality declined, and Texas, where it surged, the estimated number of maternal deaths per 100,000 births rose to 23.8 in 2014 from 18.8 in 2000 – or about 27%.

Bet you didn’t expect that, right? (I certainly didn’t.) But how bad is it really?

From 2000 to the end of 2010, Texas’s estimated maternal mortality rate hovered between 17.7 and 18.6 per 100,000 births. But after 2010, that rate had leaped to 33 deaths per 100,000, and in 2014 it was 35.8. Between 2010 and 2014, more than 600 women died for reasons related to their pregnancies.

Texas is part of the developed world, so the maternal mortality rate surge cannot be explained by “war, natural disaster, or severe economic upheaval.” So what is it?

In recent years, Texas has severely decreased women’s access to spaces that offer medical services for reproductive health. In 2011, “the Texas state legislature cut $73.6M from the state’s family planning budget of $111.5M.” This measure resulted in 80 clinics closing across the state. Planned Parenthood clinics were also completely eliminated, which cut off access to reproductive health measures for lower-income women especially. Planned Parenthood had previously served 130K+ women across the state.

While Texas restored the family planning budget to its original level in 2013, the damage was already done: Many clinics are still struggling to provide the same level of care and service they provided before the cut. But Texas clinics are now offering free IUDs, so there’s some hope they’ll be flourishing soon.

The Fifty Shades Darker Trailer is the Most-Viewed Trailer Ever in Its First 24 Hours

Guess who’s back? Back again?

Sexy rich man in tuxedo with whip and lover indoor black and white bdsmNot Slim Shady. Everyone’s favorite telecommunications boy-genius/BDSM enthusiast/master manipulator Christian Grey and blank slate/everygirl/victim Ana Steele. Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson reprise their roles as the aforementioned twosome in the installment based on E.L. James’ second book Fifty Shades Darker.

The first trailer for the movie debuted on Wednesday, Sept. 14th and has already become notable for setting a new record: The trailer became the most-viewed trailer within 24 hours of its release.

The Fifty Shades Darker trailer was viewed 114M times within the first day of its release. It performed well across digital platforms, and received 2.5M views on the movie’s Facebook page only in the U.S. Internationally, the trailer was viewed 74.6M times, over double the number of domestic views.

The previous record for most-viewed trailer in the 24-hour period after its debut was 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That trailer received 112M views.

With these viewing numbers for an initial trailer, I think we can reasonably expect that the second movie will do fairly well in box office take when released. If past trends are anything to go by, the first movie sold a lot of advance tickets and became the “sixth R-rated movie to gross more than $500 million.”

Fifty Shades Darker will be released Feb. 10, 2017.

My 50 Shades of Grey: Interview with a True Sub

What are the benefits for you outside the gifts?

I have a higher self esteem and sense of self worth because of these relationships. For me, this provides a safe place to explore and indulge all carnal and sexual desires. It’s a respite from the daily grind of being a tough, ball-busting woman who can ‘handle everything on her own’. At the end of the day, it’s a game. A role-playing fantasy that I find to be much more efficient and satisfying than casually dating and dealing with all the double talk and emotional head games people play.

Do you ever feel shame about this sexual fetish?

Oh my god, never. I have felt more shame getting all dressed up to go to a guy’s place and having ‘just one drink and then dinner’ turn into getting smashed and ordering pizza. That’s a waste of a dress AND my fucking energy and time. There is a handful of ways you can quantify importance or value: time, energy, money. I feel more respected by my Daddy than any guy I have ever dated normally. And it’s not always being naked except for a collar and leash. We go out to eat all the time, he’s taken me on vacation, he takes me shopping if I need anything. I feel more valuable now than I ever have. He will bring me a gift if we meet for coffee or a quick lunch; sex is not always involved when we meet. My self esteem is more easily shattered by a date or a boyfriend checking out other chicks when we’re out; I have honestly never noticed my Daddy do that. He is hyper-focused on me because he has ascribed a value to me. He is sexually dominant, but I am (as should be all subs) the one who reaps the most benefit. He treats me like a treasured jewel.

What’s something that people wouldn’t necessarily expect from this lifestyle?

Most people would be surprised about the amount of affection and respect that is in involved in these relationships. Also, most people would be surprised to learn that subs can dominate from the bottom; if we don’t approve of or consent to something, it does not fly. And the majority of us refer to sex as ‘playing’; we understand that the role playing is a game. These relationships have consistently been the most functional, straight-forward relationships I’ve ever had. No emotional head games, no bullshit.

My Response: Just Kill Her Already – Millennial Women Respond to Adult Content…Take 1

Sexual activity is on the rise, but physical connection is practically nonexistent. Another single girlfriend of mine put it best when she said “These days men don’t have sex with you, they have sex AT you.” We are teaching children that this is how “adults” have sex, like animals. A blowjob has become as innocuous as a first kiss. Could violent porn be the impetus of the rape culture we are currently living in? It’s ok to abuse women in porn, so is it ok to abuse them in real life? If you were a young boy growing up watching this kind of violence wouldn’t you be influenced? Would you grow up to be Brock Turner? I’m not saying watching porn makes you a rapist, but viewing women being disrespected on a daily basis is certainly not going to make you respect women. When your average college athlete sees a woman passed out by a dumpster and the instinct is not to call for help but license to sexually assault, we have a problem.

88% of porn scenes now include physical aggression towards women and female sexual subservience. Porn has gone from “making love” with a dreamy man in some palatial vacation setting to one woman being slapped in the face by 15 different penises in a studio apartment. It’s out of control and nobody is doing anything about it.

How do we stop it? This is America; we can’t ban porn, but can we regulate it? It is going to take a significant amount of effort from women, who are basically responsible for any changes in society with regard to women. Check out http://www.endslaverynow.org/act/action-library/stop-watching-violent-porn

Ask the men in your life to help spearhead the movement against violent porn. We have been conditioned to view this as “just porn” but it’s much worse than that. It is having a direct effect on society and our children. Lack of intimacy is prevalent nationwide. People are fornicating but aren’t connecting. In every major city in the country there is an epidemic of single women struggling to find love off Tinder. If we don’t change the way we view sex in modern society, it is going to make out for a pretty sad and lonely future for our children.

Adult Preferences vs. Real Life – Millennial Women Respond to Adult Content…Take 2

My husband and I have very different tastes in porn, which is why we don’t watch it together as a way to get ourselves revved up. We have tried actually to see if it did the trick, but in the end I found his a bit boring and he kept saying “ow…ow” while watching mine, so we just ended up watching Netflix and falling asleep. I’m of the firm belief that it’s healthy for your male counterpart to masturbate and him watching porn does not bother me in the least. If he didn’t I would think that was weird! We have a friendly banter about it where we both laugh and it’s never been an issue.

I’m sure I’m not alone in this, being a woman who is turned on visually by things she would not necessarily be into in the flesh, but I wonder what that is. Is it that the thing I like looks a little too scary or adventurous, and on some occasions, painful? Or is it the difference between making love and simply f**king? Perhaps it’s the fear that my husband would be SO into it we would never have sex the way we used to?

Who knows? For now I’m just going to keep this little occasional treat for myself, and maybe one day test out that that last theory.

Can You Still Have a Good Relationship With Different Sexual Desires?

The feeling of being on the receiving end of this ultimately did not appeal to her. It took a lot of preparation, and a lot of the time it simply didn’t feel good. She also felt very pressured into doing it, agreeing to it because she thought it would make her partner happy. That was the first and last time she tried it. While it may be actively wanted by one person involved, it just may not work out for a couple the way that one desires it.

If your partner wants to involve a third person, make sure you are one hundred percent comfortable and not just agreeing to it to appease another person. Whether it’s an open relationship or a threesome, involving another person can be risky if one of the parties isn’t entirely willing. Maintaining monogamy may be very important to a partner, and losing that may make them feel they’re not being entirely true to themselves.

My ex was very much a polyamorous person, while I was and still am very much monogamous. A few months before we broke up, he stated that he wanted to be in an open relationship. Initially I agreed to it, but after about a month I vocalized my concerns, telling him I didn’t feel like I was being true to myself and my desires. This was one of the main reasons why we had to break up. It was certainly for the best, as not seeing eye-to-eye on this matter can dictate the entire dynamic of the relationship.

Here’s What Not to Do In the Bedroom

You probably didn’t need a study to tell you this, but research confirms that sex is one of the ingredients that’s most crucial to making long-term relationships thrive. Early on, feeling sexy and passionate isn’t hard—but things can get trickier as the years go on. Hoping to bust out of a dry spell or prevent those embers from fading? Don’t make these common mistakes.

Mistake #1: Thinking you need a “date night” to connect

If you’re like most couples, the first thing you do when you want to reconnect with your partner is put a “date night” on the calendar. “The idea is that after a fancy dinner, candlelight, and wine, you’ll come home and want to jump each other,” says Tammy Nelson, PhD, a sex and relationship therapist and author of The New Monogamy. But what really happens after a meal of rich food, a few glasses of wine, and a late night out? “Most couples want nothing more than to go to sleep,” Nelson points out.

The fix:

Send the kids out while you and your partner stay home alone. “Think of this as a sacred time for the two of you to practice ‘planned’ spontaneity,” Nelson suggests. “It’s a much better way to act out all of your fantasies, without feeling bloated and hungover the next day.”

Mistake #2: Forgoing sex because you’re not in the mood

“Having a grown-up life is exhausting, and stress and fatigue can decrease desire,” acknowledges Nelson. But if you wait to have sex until you have plenty of free time and boundless energy, you may be waiting a long time.

Plus, “for many people, particularly women, desire comes after arousal, not the other way around,” Nelson notes. “That means once your body is sufficiently aroused, you may find you are more into sex than you realized.”

The fix:

Just do it, and you’ll probably be glad that you did. If you’re genuinely crazed from obligations and short on time, you can still fit in a quickie, says Nelson. “The sexual contact will make you feel connected to your partner and can reduce the stress in your marriage.” Sex also helps release endorphins and dopamine, serotonin, and other brain chemicals that can reduce your stress during the day and help you sleep better at night.

Mistake #3: Falling into a rut

There’s something to be said for sex so familiar that you can anticipate what’s coming next. “Each of you knows the buttons to push for the other, and if you have a routine that’s giving the other a good orgasm, then by all means, keep at it,” says Nelson. That’s said, it’s not uncommon for couples to get entrenched in habits that aren’t working. They just aren’t sure how to change them or worry that speaking up will hurt the other’s feelings.

The fix:

“Pick one day a week to do something different,” suggests Nelson, “maybe a morning or an afternoon when you have more leisure time to expand on the erotic connection in your relationship.” Start by telling your partner three things you appreciate about him sexually, plus one bedroom move you’d like more of. Then listen as your partner does the same.

“Talking about sex can increase the sexual tension between you, and if you do this exercise in bed, it can really turn up the heat,” Nelson says.

Mistake #4: Worrying how your sex life stacks up

From leaked sex tapes to the latest episode of Game of Thrones, we’re inundated with sexual images—which can put an outsized amount of pressure on us to look or act a certain way in the bedroom. “Sex isn’t supposed to look like porn,” says Amy Levine, a sex coach in New York City and founder of IgniteYourPleasure.com. “Sex in real life can be awkward, takes practice, and has the potential to be incredibly intimate and vulnerable.”

The fix:

Be open-minded, Levine says. “Be present, know what feels good to you, communicate your wants and desires, be yourself, and find your confidence.” In other words, approach sex with your partner, she says, “without judgment or expectations.”

Mistake #5: Taking your emotional connection for granted

When was the last time you really spoke to your partner, other than to confirm what’s for dinner or who’s on duty to pick up the kids after soccer practice? Thanks to hectic, overscheduled days, the majority of time we spend with our partners takes place when we’re asleep, notes Paul Hokemeyer, PhD, a licensed marriage and family therapist in New York City. “But quality relationships require an intimate emotional connection during awake times,” he says.

The fix:

Carve out 30 minutes of connection with your partner before shutting your eyes, Hokemeyer advises. “Turn off all electronics and snuggle or discuss the events of the day.” And while you love your kids (or the family pet) dearly, having them around at this time will “squeeze out the romance,” he notes. “Set clear boundaries and enforce them.”

Mistake #6: Not talking about sex

“The inability to have open and honest communication is at the heart of many couples’ problems in the bedroom,” says Elona Landau, a sex educator in Portland, Oregon. “Even with the people to whom we’re committed, we can’t openly talk about our wants, desires, and needs.” We either never learned how, she says, or keep quiet for fear of being judged, shamed, or shut down.

The fix:

Your partner isn’t a mind-reader, and neither are you. Want to have sex more often, try something new, or have concerns about your waning libido? Speak up. Meanwhile, ask your partner to weigh in on the state of your physical union. Just as relationships grow and evolve over time, so does your sexuality.

“Listen with ‘fresh ears’ and try to hear what your partner wants without putting it through your own filter,” says Landau. Pay attention to how you’re responding, whether you’re intrigued, uncomfortable, or somewhere else on the spectrum—and approach that with curiosity as well. “Being willing to hear the other person, acknowledge their vulnerability, and be empathetic to their needs can go a long way.”

I, Sexbot

Women are afraid of being jealous of sex robots, who don’t gain weight or sweat or have body hair, unless you have requested some on the order form.

The fact is, technology has always been scary in the bedroom. Vibrators were originally developed as an easy way for doctors to give women orgasms as treatment for “hysteria”, which was medical talk for women being stressed out by a life of responsibilities without the release of orgasms, because their spouses didn’t believe women could have them. The vibrator has existed since the 19th century, and men still regard them with suspicion, worried that women prefer them to sex with a partner, instead of being used along with or in the absence of a partner. I think sex robots will be much the same- no matter how good they get, they won’t be the same as sex with a person. When we say people are “in love” with their sex robots, that’s the fallacy. They may enjoy their experience, but it’s not love. I like my vibrator, but it’s a tool. I don’t connect with it. Even if it was attached to the Hugh Jackman RealDoll I have been asking the RealDoll company to send me as sponsorship for advertising, I wouldn’t love it. I don’t care if silicon Hugh Jackman has an orgasm or experiences pleasure, and I can’t connect or bond with him, and that’s a big part of having sex with another person.  There is no eye contact with the Hugh Jackman RealDoll, who also doesn’t exist, because I just made him up.  The smell of another person, the feel of their touch, the look in their eyes, the condition of being desired by another person– these won’t be replaced.

When we examine these fears for a second, and are rational, we can say: there will be outlier men who are so challenged and frustrated with human relationships that they will purchase sex robots and only interact with them. But they will always be a minority.

Sex robots could be a practical comfort on long trips, during space exploration, during breakups or between relationships, or when you are otherwise unable to be with a partner, but to say that all men want from relationships is subordinate sex is to grossly oversimplify what relationships are. To believe that sex equals love is childish. Having a realistic sex robot doesn’t stave off loneliness. Like legalized weed won’t make for a world of marijuana abuse, sex robots will only add to the human sexual experience, not replace it.

How Size Doesn’t Matter: Take Napoleon for Instance

Every French man knows that like all good wines, women mature with age, in both beauty and brains.

There’s a general consensus that women love tall men, or at the very least taller than them. I am not sure what the benefits of being lanky are; my legs hurt in economy, the game limbo where people judge how low I can go is 15% harder and my career as a professional jockey is not where I’d like it to be. And yet, that hasn’t held us gargantuan men back from conquering the hearts of the opposite sex.

Conquering may be an inappropriate word, but it leads me nicely onto one of the most famous short men, Napoleon Bonaparte. Although listed as 5 feet 2 inches, those were the old French units which in the modern equivalent would make him 5’7”. (Same height as Tom Cruise. Coincidence? Yes.)

Napoleon not only wanted to conquer land for Lady Liberty of France, but also needed to conquer the heart of a potential empress to have by his side. Young Napoleon was in charge of older men who loomed over him and the only way he thought he’d have the respect of his men was by marrying a cougar. Meeeow. How’d you get this total babe? Oh you know, just invading multiple countries. No biggie.

Napoleon fell head over heels for Marie-Joseph-Rose de Meauharnais, later renamed Josephine because Napoleon didn’t like her name. We all give our lovers nicknames after all. The only problem with the relationship? She despised Napoleon. He was too much of a nerd.

Every French man knows that like all good wines, women mature with age, in both beauty and brains. (Cheese is also great the more mature it is, but not the best comparison for a lady). Josephine may have been a desirable decanter of Dom Perignon when it came to motherhood, but a Two Buck Chuck chardonnay with a crazy straw when it came to ROMANCE with Napoleon. She had no desire whatsoever to marry Napoleon, but was informed by a friend the only way for her to keep her lavish lifestyle and keep her two children safe was to marry Napoleon, whom was oblivious to her hatred for him.

They married and a few days later, it was a romantic honeymoon to Italy, without her. Alas, he had to go to work, and every day, the besotted general would write his wife love letters, while she was back home in Paris, Netflix and chilling with other men.
She made many excuses as to why she could not join him in Italy, and went as far as telling him she was pregnant and thus could not travel. She was not with child of course, which is surprising considering the amount of Parisian baguette she gobbled. She just wasn’t interested in giving the general a chance to show her he was worthy of her heart.

When the cuckolded Napoleon found out, angered by the betrayal, he decided to come back to France in a mission to cherish her. Napoleon’s attempt to win her heart lasted too briefly when she arrived and told him the reason she was no longer pregnant was due to a miscarriage. This devastated Napoleon. (I bet you didn’t know all this about the tiny man we mock).

After she cheated on him a few more times, he no longer loved her, but in a twist of fate, she now was falling in love with him. The story goes that Josephine was forever in love with Napoleon from the moment he parted ways with her. As she was dying of diphteria, her last word was ‘Napoleon’. He later re-married the Archduchess of Austria Maria-Louisa, later renamed Marie Louise because Napoleon didn’t like her name.

Tall men don’t necessarily make better men. Neither do ‘bad boys’. Ladies, give the not so tall nerds a chance, they might surprise you and go above and beyond to swoon you off your feet. And if they seem to try hard like Napoleon, it might just be because they’re really besotted by you. My wife told me she wasn’t sure about getting with me because I was too weird, but luckily one of her friends convinced her to give me a chance, and now we’re happily married. Give the nerds a chance.

I Always Meet In Public First…Now

At that point, I came up with a great idea! I asked, “What’s in that oil?!” He picked up the bottle, looked at it, and started reading off the ingredients. Before he could finish, I got up and said, “I think I’m allergic!” and ran to the bathroom. I hopped into the shower, turned it on, and pretended to wash myself. My partner came in with a great amount of concern asking if I was okay. I smiled and said, “I’m not allergic, can you get him to leave though?!” What a trooper my partner is! He told him that I was washing it off and that it was okay, but that he should probably go. So, “Tantra Todd” we’ll call him, called himself an Uber. As we all waited, I pretended to keep showering. I felt bad about the amount of water I was wasting for this silly cause, however I did wash my vagina quite a bit, mostly to get rid of the ick factor, so I guess it was worth it.The guy finally left, thank the Uber Gods, and my partner and I made a vow, then and there, to always meet in public first.

What I should have done was been honest with him and made him leave from the get go, probably some time around when he said, “the Mexicans.” I hate that people, women especially, feel obligated to be “nice” in uncomfortable situations. We so often trade politeness for our own well-being. We should stop doing that. I should stop doing that. Part of making sure something like that can’t happen is to not allow yourself to get into those situations in the first place. I knew full well that this could have been trouble, and I know that I am very lucky it wasn’t a different kind of trouble. To be met with someone who was just offensive and unskilled rather than violent or dangerous is actually one of the better circumstances I could have been caught up in. While I’m not a fan of living in fear, I am a fan of making smart choices. This is a lesson that I only need to learn once. I hope.

The point is that meeting in public doesn’t just help you avoid a murderer or a rapist, it also helps you avoid a liar, racist, and really bad masseuse.

Her and His Story of Sacred Pleasure

We have been taught that sexuality and the sacred are polar opposites, but they were united in ancient traditions across the globe.

Riane Eisler’s groundbreaking research and writings on ancient cultures reveal this exciting reality about what so many women and men long for today… more meaningful, fulfilling pleasure and loving sexuality.

Sex After Loss: The First Time After the Last Time

“HOLY SHIT!!! I’M REALLY GOING TO HAVE SEX!!!’

This was the thought that kept popping up over and over again, on a constant loop, as we rolled around in my bed. It was just so unbelievable to me. I couldn’t grasp that it was actually ME that was half-naked and making out while practically running down the hall to get to the bedroom. I kept thinking maybe some random fire alarm would go off for no reason, or someone would knock at the door, or my roommate would come home randomly from being out of town for the weekend.

When you first become widowed, you literally think your life is over. And it is. Well, the life you knew is over. Because that person is no longer here, so you can’t ever get that life back again. And for a long time, you can’t really picture having any other version of life, or ever even wanting one or caring. So to be in the midst of the throws of passionate and fun and hot sex about to take place, and to suddenly realize that not only are you NOT going to get all weird and emotional and depressed during this – but that you will actually REALLY enjoy it – is pretty goddamn awesome. It’s a “holy shit!” kind of moment. Or, at least it was for me.

“There is a human man in my bedroom right now who ISN’T my husband, and he is looking at my naked and old and NOT skinny body, and he isn’t running away in terror. How is this a real thing?”

When you’re an overweight girl to begin with, like I am, you get pretty used to rejection, or just plain old apathy. When you’re fat AND widowed, it doesn’t exactly do wonders for your self-esteem. All you can think about is who the hell is going to want ME ever again? Why would anyone find THIS desirable? And yet, here someone is, in my room, right this minute, and he is somehow turned on, by ME. I kept expecting him to bolt out of there any minute, make up some excuse why he had to get home. But that didn’t happen. He wanted to be with ME. And whatever shitty and deplorable way our relationship came to an end later, (and it WAS extremely shitty) in that moment, on that night, during my first time after the last time, he wanted meAnd that felt good.
